What to Wear Under a White Dress

Everyone knows not to wear scarlet or black under white unless they want what’s underneath to show, but when you’re wearing light color and it still shows, it almost feels like there’s nothing you can do. But there is. Even the whitest, thinnest dress doesn’t have to reveal underwear if you’re wearing the right kind. When you’re wearing a white dress, visible underwear destroys the effect of the dress. Full Coverage Undergarments Consider a slip, which is almost always a good idea under a white dress to smooth the lines. This should match the bra and panties, in a nude or brown color that matches your skin tone. White works as well, if the slip covers almost all areas under the dress. If you’re looking for more support and reshaping, there are full-coverage shapers in the same form as slips. Again, go for a seamless design

Panties and Undergarment Bottoms Use many of the rules that apply for bras under white dresses. Go for colors that match your skin tone. Go for seamless cuts that offer coverage. Avoid thongs if the dress is cut in any way that outlines your backside; you don’t want any cellulite to show through. Bras and Undergarment Tops If you prefer separates for your top and bottom underneath your white dress, choose bras that match your skin tone–nudes and browns. Regardless of the thickness of the dress, try to match your bra to your skin tone. White will show through the fabric. If the fabric is moderately thin to thin, avoid any bras with lace or detailing. Wear a smooth, seamless bra. Naturally, you’ll want to match your strap to the cut of the dress. Strapless bras work well with thin or strapless cuts of dresses.
