Finding that perfect dress may be a bit of a challenge, but a good consultant can direct you to solutions that may help you get exactly what you are searching for. Don’t be disheartened and don’t put too much pressure on yourself. Not all brides cry or get overly, outwardly excited when they find “the dress”. But you will know because you feel good in it, it makes you happy and you can envision your day in it.
If you are spending this kind of money on your cheap party dress, be sure to ask if there is any additional cost to modifying the dress, some may carry a fee for doing this as it would be “custom”. Plus you want to ask what the cost would be, because if your pairing the bodice of an $11,000 gown with a $6,000 dollar skirt, you may be paying an $11,000 dollar price tag for your custom gown. Never assume any gown can be modified at all beyond a hollow to hem measurement. Some designers will not even do simple modifications like sweethearting a square neckline. As for color changes, you get what the designer makes in that dress and style. Should you wish to dye the gown, this may be a possibility on your own or with assistance from a consultant. Be aware though that certain fabrics will take dyes better than others and imperfections or changes in fabric direction or detail may catch dye differently or cause blotchiness on the dress. It all has to be done carefully.
Should you want a dress that you just can not get the way you want, a seamstress or tailor may be able to create the dress for you with the assistance of several patterns and pictures.
Love yourself and enjoy the process, you will find the dress and he will love seeing you come down the aisle in it.
Ladies, you have the dream dress in your head. You’ve seen hundreds of dresses that are close but just not right. You like the top of one dress, the skirt on another and the length of yet another. You watch “Say Yes to the Dress” and they mix and match to make that perfect dress. What a perfect dream, you want that. Now the harsh and unkind reality of bridal salons. Most designers DO NOT do this for brides. The ones that do are very selective about what they will modify on the dress. Usually a dress the designer is willing to take the top of the pattern and the bottom of another of their patterns and put them together, is in a very high price range. You’re usually looking at a gown that is $10,000 plus.
