The Hidden Bustle

Research bustle styles and pictures to get an better idea of what you may want. Ask the salon staff to sow you some bustles when you are trying on dresses and bring pictures of what you like so the salon can try them on your dress when you are looking. This also helps to convey what you want to a seamstress who may not know the exact names or may call them different names than you are used to. Have fun and don’t be afraid to try several different styles of bustle to get the best look for you.

Sometimes though, the way you want it to look may be totally different that what can be achieved. Many dresses that have chiffon or netting over them can not be bustled the same way a satin gown can be. Mostly due to the fact that loops, ties and buttons are clearly visible through the thin and transparent fabric. Plus these dresses are usually over a layer of satin that has to be bustled up to compliment the lace, tulle or chiffon.

You are in love with your dress and everything about it. Now comes the time for you to get your alterations done. Part of this process includes putting in your bustle.

Some dresses you can do a 3 point bustle that appears to be nothing more than an continuation of the skirt or a Nacho bustle. You can’t see it unless you really look.

Though, the satin and tulle or lace can be bustled as a Nacho (where you flip the hem of the train under the prom dresses sale to create the look of one continous hem without a train. This will require may ties and snaps to make it fall right. This can be very expensive with a dress that has an overlayer not directly attached all the way along the sating and hem. It will be a bustle you don’t know is there and does not generally add much volume to the back of the dress once done up.

For some brides they know exactly what they want and can clearly tell the seamstress, others aren’t sure, which may require some tries to get a look you like. For many ruched gowns, a train will be done so that it bustles to match the ruching so that you can not tell there is a bustle there. Some women simply like an over or french bustle no matter the style. The options can be endless.
